Boeing XB-15:

Convair XB-46:

Convair's XB-46, which lost out to the slightly more capable North American B-45 Tornado. (USAF)

Convair YB-60:

The Convair YB-60 prototype eight-jet bomber making its maiden flight on 18 April 1952. The YB-60 was a modification of the B-36 but lost out to the more capable Boeing B-52.

Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster:

The Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster featured two V12 piston engines driving contra-rotating propellors, but was later fitted with jet engines and used for test purposes. Although the XB-42 performed very well, it was eclipsed by jet aircraft. (USAF(

The Douglas XB-43 Jetmaster was basically a jet powered XB-42 Mixmaster used for test purposes. (USAF)

Martin XB-48:

The Martin XB-48, which lost out to Boeing's B-47 Stratojet. (USAF)

Martin XB-51:

The first of two Martin XB-51s. The XB-51 lost out to a license-built version of the English Electric Canberra. Martin was not disappointed because it was contracted to build the Canberra as the B-57. (USAF)
